Hey Mommas!! Don't know which part of the country you call home, but down here in Oklahoma fall finally arrived. We started the week with these beautiful, calm 70 degree days and we have ended the week with wild wind and Freeze Warnings. Fall finally showed up and it seems like overnight. The leaves have finally started to change. Bursts of yellow, red, and bright orange have finally emerged. With this sudden weather change, the wind has absolutely been whipping. It is blowing up all sorts of dust and dirt, and it's bound to get everybody coughing and hacking. I have been fighting off a cold all week, and with each day that goes by I seem to be succeeding less and less on that front. Scratchy throat, coughing, sneezing, headache. Yuck. Enter the Hot Toddy.
The Hot Toddy is that classic cocktail that you used to hear doctors prescribe to patients for a sore throat--whiskey, lemon, honey. Yep, all good ingredients. While I'm normally a skeptic of silly remedies like that, this one has some validity....and not just because it contains alcohol! ;) Plus, you can variate this cocktail in so many ways to suit your tastes. You can use it with just about any dark liquor -- whiskey, dark rum, brandy, etc. You can throw in different spices, teas, or juices for a different flavor. It's completely adaptable to your taste buds. My version is pretty close to the classic Hot Toddy with the addition of some spices. After having my Hot Toddy this afternoon, I can already feel the congestion in my chest breaking up and my scratchy throat finally feels soothed. So the next time you feel a cold or a sore throat coming on, I would highly recommend this Hot Toddy recipe. After all, mommas don't get to take a day off for being sick. No one to replace us right? Mommas have to be on the job 24/7...sick or not. So might as well do what you can to fight off being sick when you feel it coming on right? Happy Friday Girls! Cheers and here's hoping you have a healthy and happy rest of your fall!!

MOMMA MOJITO'S CLASSIC HOT TODDY
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 oz. Brandy
- 4-6 oz. Hot Water
- 1/2 tbsp. Lemon Juice
- 1/2 tbsp. Honey
- Dash of Cinnamon (or 1 whole stick)
- Dash of Cloves (or 2 whole)
- Lemon Slices to garnish
- Heat Tolerant Mug
Directions:
In your mug, drizzle in the honey along the bottom of the mug. Add your dashes of cinnamon and cloves. (If using the whole versions, hold off on adding these until after you add the hot water.) Next, add the Brandy. Now add your hot water. (I like to use my tea kettle to heat the water--easier that way!) Next, add your lemon juice. If you're adding the whole cinnamon stick and the cloves, then add those now. Give it a stir. Garnish with as many lemon slices as you like. I like to throw a couple into the mug for some added lemon flavor. Now let it all steep for about 3 minutes then enjoy. Drink anytime you're feeling under the weather or you're just cold and need a nice warm cocktail! See you next Friday Mommas!!
