It's Friday Cocktail Time! Witches' Brew (Sangria) Edition!

Mommas-- it's almost Halloween and I am officially getting in the spirit!  If you're a regular reader, you'll remember my reluctance to welcome in the fall season a few weeks ago but I have finally come around.  My kiddos are super excited!  I have one little Buzz Lightyear and one little Catwoman this Halloween!  So to get in the spirit, I felt like I needed to make a WITCHES' BREW...or as you know it -- Sangria.  But let's call it Witches' Brew for now.  This Witches' Brew is actually my perfected original Sangria recipe.  And it's divine.  Have you ever been to the Mexican restaurant called Abuelo's?? Well if you haven't, you should--seriously it's yum.  And I would know!! About a million years ago, or well really ten to be exact, I actually worked at Abuelo's in College Station, Texas as a hostess.  Many people have horror stories about their time working in the food industry.  However, I can honestly say I became an even bigger fan of Abuelo's from working there.  Everything is clean and orderly.  Nothing weird happening behind the scenes in the kitchen that you as a customer don't want to know about.  Nope. Nada.  Every time I went back in the kitchen, my stomach would start growling.  Everything always looked and smelled delicious.  So take it from me, Abuelo's is worth the visit.

Moreover, Abuelo's makes a fabulous homemade sangria fresh every single day.  Yes homemade from scratch every single day.  YUM! Several years ago, I set out to make it and tried to remember how it went from my time stalking the bar area.  I couldn't remember exactly so I came up with my own version.  It's very similar but dare I say even better!  It's got a ton of fresh fruit, wine, BRANDY, triple sec, peach schnapps, and you're destined to fall in love with it. I guarantee it.  What's also great about it is that it makes enough for about 4-6 glasses so invite some other witches over for some of this brew! ;) Be sure to serve it in some of our "Cheers Witches" wine glasses and it's bound to be a fun and spookylicious time!  Here it is girls--- Cheers Witches and Happy Halloween!!

MOMMA MOJITO'S WITCHES BREW (AKA SANGRIA)

Ingredients:

  • 1 Bottle of Red Wine (I used a Cabernet. Use what you prefer, but I recommend a Merlot, Burgundy, or a Cabernet.)
  • 4 oz. Brandy -- this is the key ingredient!
  • 4 oz. Peach Schnapps
  • 3 oz. Triple Sec
  • 1.5 oz. Simple Syrup
  • Fresh Sliced Fruit: Strawberries--approximately 10, Peaches--2, Limes--2, Orange--1, Lemon--1
  • Ice
  • Sprite -- to top off each glass (optional)

Directions:

In a large pitcher, throw all your sliced fruit in the bottom.  Pour the simple syrup over the top of the fruit.  Now, add your wine, brandy, peach schnapps, and triple sec.  Refrigerate overnight preferably or at least 2 hours.  Take a wine glass and fill halfway with ice.  Pour the refrigerated brew along with plenty of fruit slices in each glass filled to about 2/3 to the top. Then, add Sprite to taste and give it a slight stir. That's it! Cheers Witches!!!

Multitasking Momma

Hey there Mommas!! Hope everybody's week has been going great! I have been one busy Momma as of late.  On a fairly frequent basis, I volunteer at my children's school when I get the opportunity.  The past two years, I volunteered as a homeroom mom and then I would volunteer to do copying and help out in the front office whenever I could.  Well, this year I decided I would also get signed up to be a substitute teacher if I felt the urge to do so or they just needed an extra set of hands at the school.  This week was my first week to substitute and it went great! I actually was asked to substitute for my daughter's 2nd grade class.  I was a little nervous at first and didn't know what to expect.  However, by the end of the first day, I had the hang of it and actually had a lot of fun! My daughter loved having me as her teacher and it was very interesting to see how she acts in the classroom! So this week while substituting, I did my best to also balance running a small business as well.  It was a little tricky and my product posting did lag a little bit.  But overall, it worked out pretty well and it was a good experience!

If there's one thing I like to pride myself on, it is hard work.  It's actually our little family motto. My husband is the king of hard work...almost to a fault.  Seriously, sometimes I feel like I need to holler at him, "JUST COME HOME ALREADY!"  Anyhow, it's something that we stress to our kids on a daily basis is that hard work will get you everywhere in life.  Our motto is "Bakers always work hard." (Baker is our last name btw.)  Our kids still complain about it at times, as I guess every kid would.  Hopefully, it's something they will come to take pride in as they grow older as well....or at least that's what we're hoping! ;)

Lots going on here at the Momma Mojito HQ the remainder of the week and next week, as I will be reordering some fan favorites as well as working on an adorable matching T-shirt set for you mommas and your kiddos for Thanksgiving!! Woohoo!!  Speaking of the holidays, Halloween is almost here and we have 4 remaining "Cheers Witches" wine glasses! Get yours while you still have the chance!! See you tomorrow girls for the next edition of Friday Cocktail Time!!

It's Friday Cocktail Time! Blackberry Rum Punch Edition!

Hey Mommas!! I hope you all have had a fabulous week!  Who's excited about the weekend?? I sure am! For those of you that don't know, I am a very proud Former Texas Aggie and we have a big game tomorrow! We're planning on "beatin' the hell outta" Tennessee!! Whoop!!  It's been a challenging but rewarding week for me.  For more on the challenging part, refer to my previous blog post titled Momma Trials & Tribulations.  Little Monkey is finally back at school today and I'm so glad he's finally feeling better.  So to kick off this great weekend, I have made you a delicious Blackberry Rum Punch!!

Rum Punch is like the quintessential party drink.  Just throw a couple different types of rum in the bowl with some fruit juices, fruit, and maybe a little lemon-lime soda and you got yourself a PARTAYYY!!  Well, this Blackberry Rum Punch is a little more sophisticated than that, but still easy as can be.  Make one this weekend and enjoy yourself Momma!!

MOMMA MOJITO'S BLACKBERRY RUM PUNCH

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz. White Rum
  • 1 oz. Pineapple Rum
  • 2 oz. Orange Juice
  • 1.5 oz. Pineapple Juice
  • Big Splash of Grenadine
  • Lemon-Lime Soda to Taste
  • Juice of half a Lemon
  • 8 Blackberries
  • 1 Sugar Cube
  • Ice
  • Fresh Mint Sprig and Lemon Slice to Garnish

Directions:

In a pint glass or large glass of your choosing, place the blackberries, sugar cube, and lemon juice at the bottom.  Muddle very slightly.  You want to release the flavor of the blackberries without turning them into mush.  Now add some ice filled to about 2/3 of the glass.  Next, add your rums, grenadine, pineapple juice, and orange juice in that order.  Now, top off the glass with your lemon-lime soda.  Stir the whole thing up lightly.  Lastly, garnish with the mint and lemon slice. Done!! Enjoy Mommas!!  See you next week for another edition of Friday Cocktail Time!!

Momma Trials & Tribulations

Hey there Mommas! What a crazy week this first week of October has been.  Phew.  Where do I even start? Well, first it was our product launch on the 1st and that was very exciting.  Thank you all so much for the love and support.  It means the world to me.  My little monkey had his first soccer game of the season and well that was...umm interesting.  Kinda like watching somebody herd cats.  I think each team scored more goals in the opposing team's goal than their own.  Nevertheless, I am always proud of my boy.  Unfortunately, he has come down with some sort of virus that is going around this week.  He's been home from school with me yesterday and today.  He's getting antsy having to sit still.  This kid is seriously a tough little booger.  He rarely tells me if he feels bad...it's usually me just going to hug him or touch him and then I realize how hot he is and I have to ask, "Do you feel okay baby?" Then he'll think about it and realize he's not feeling so great.  I have literally seen this kid up and playing with his cars like it was no big deal when he was running 104 degree fever.  Super Kid I guess is what I should call him.  He tried to convince me that he was okay to run cross country last night when he was running 101.8.  I laughed and said, "Absolutely not."  To which he promptly threw himself on the floor and started whining because he wanted to run.  Crazy right?  But I love having him home with me.  He's so sweet and cuddly with his momma.  Always my sweet little Momma's boy.  So we've been getting lots of snuggles in and reading books and watching movies.

Meanwhile, I am about to go insane over this clown stuff going around at school.  What is the deal with this??  My kids' school was apparently on somewhat of a lockdown yesterday because some middle schoolers were making fake clown Instagram accounts and threatening the elementary school.  Then, on top of that, one school in the area had a total lockdown over a gun threat and another school announced that they were being threatened too.  I know that lots of schools around the country are experiencing similar issues.  I understand that these teenagers just think they are playing harmless pranks, but their parents need to be talking to them about the people they are affecting.  It's not fun and games to the parents of these small elementary children.  It's not something we can take lightly.  I just hope that these kids that are involved in this foolish behavior get punished properly and are able to realize how serious the consequences are for their actions.  I know all of you mommas across the country understand the fear I'm going through dropping my little ones off with these threats going around.  It has to stop.

So dealing with my sick child and dropping my other child off at school knowing there is somebody threatening violence there, I get home from drop-off at school this morning and see this:

This is my garden that our crazy dog, Jade, decided to destroy this morning over a FROG.  Yes that's right.. the garden I've been tending to ALL summer long and managed to somewhat keep alive in all of this Oklahoma heat...and it's ruined because of a FROG.  Thanks Jade.

So there ya have it girls.  My week in a nutshell.  Fun stuff.  Is it Friday yet?????

MOMMA MOJITO'S CHAMPAGNE MOJITO

Ingredients:

  • Brut Champagne
  • 1/2 oz. Bacardi White Rum
  • 1/4 oz. Rose's Sweetened Lime Juice
  • 1 Small Lime sliced (preferably Key Limes!)
  • Mint for garnish

Directions:

In a champagne flute, throw 3 small lime slices in the bottom of the flute.  Next, add the sweetened lime juice.  It's important that you use the sweetened lime juice because you need just a tad bit of sweet to balance out the lime and rum.  Next, add the Bacardi Rum.  Then, add that glorious champagne all the way to the top...it ends up being about 2/3 to 1/2 the glass depending on the size of your champagne flute.  Finally, add a lime wheel and a big sprig of mint to the top and you are done!! Time to celebrate!!!
