It's Friday Cocktail Time!! WINE edition!!

Hey Mommas!! Wow!! What a crazy week in my house and this country!! It's been a busy week as always, but I have done lots of reflecting while I've been working away this week.  As you all know, this week Donald Trump was elected president and stunned the country.  I have no intention of using this blog for a political agenda so I'm going to tell you all a very different story. Feel free to laugh at my misfortune.  I won't judge you.  Heck, laughter may be what gets us through.

Yesterday, my cat caught two mice.  One enormous mouse in the morning and then she caught a smaller one in the evening.  Well, our dog Jade loves to steal Sparkles' catches when she is in the midst of playing with them.  Jade will sneak up and snatch the mouse from Sparkles and promptly take it out in the yard and eat it up whole.  Munch, munch, CRUNCH.  It is completely nasty.  Bone crunching and all.  Anytime I am outside when this is taking place, I have to talk myself out of vomiting.  It really is that gross. So yesterday evening, the kids were outside having a blast playing when all this mouse-eating was taking place.  So we go to head inside and I don't realize it but my son has stepped in dog poop somewhere in the yard while he was playing and running around and driving his power wheels Jeep.  Well, not only did he get it all over his shoes but when he was hopping in the Jeep, he got it all over the door of the Jeep and the seats and the pedal.  Of course when he went to sit down, he consequently got the dog poop all over his nice jeans.  I had no idea any of this took place until I called the kids inside for homework.  We were all sitting at the kitchen table getting homework done.  I started to smell the dog poop, so I started frantically looking around. That's when I realized, my son was pretty much covered from his waist down with smears of dog poop. Not only that, but he tracked it all through the house. The house that I'm in the middle of trying to sell right now.  That was sure fun cleaning all of that up as I'm sure you can imagine.

Fast forward to this morning.  Now I always put Jade up in the garage during the night because sometimes she gets scared and runs off.  So she has a bed in the garage we put her in at night. So this morning the kids and I head out to the garage to let Jade out and leave for school.  As soon as we open the door, we are overwhelmed with the worst smell you can possibly imagine.  I turn on the light to see the nightmare that has taken place in my garage.  Because of Jade's mouse-eating adventures yesterday, she was apparently up sick all night long.  Seriously all over the garage. So after getting the kids off to school, I literally spent my morning cleaning up shit. After spending my whole evening last night cleaning up shit.  Good times.  Pardon my language. But really?? TWO days in a row of cleaning up shit?? Are you kidding me?? For those laughing at my misfortune, I don't blame you.  If it was anyone else, I'd be laughing too.  Maybe I'll laugh about it tomorrow.    Anyhow, without going into it, I'm afraid that may not be my last time cleaning up shit.  Women across the country--I'm sure you can sympathize.  And I sympathize with you and all you go through on a daily basis.  Regardless of your political beliefs, I think we can all agree that there's always room for improvement.  Always.  It's time to roll up our sleeves and get to work fighting for what's right.  Let's get it girls.

Now, whew.  After all of the chaos this week, I needed a drink desperately, but quite frankly I just don't have the energy to make a fancy cocktail this week.  Enter wine.  Hello wine.  Oh how I love thee.  Wine is the ultimate cure-all for mommas after a long hard day.  And hey who doesn't love a good bottle of wine that tastes amazing and it's under $25?! Yes please.  So this week, I'm giving you my list of some go-to red wines I drink on the regular that are easy on the wallet. Pick you up one of these for the weekend.  Cheers Mommas.  Here's to getting shit done.  But first, let's take a deep breath and enjoy a glass of wine.  We all deserve it. See you next week girls!!

Besides making some exciting changes to Momma Mojito, I have also had a busy week of getting my house on the market and shopping for a new house in OKC! It's a very exciting and very busy time for my family! We are pretty ecstatic about finding a new home where we have a little bit more elbow room and more amenities.  The kids have had fun looking at new homes and scoping out where their potential new rooms would be.  I have a feeling these last two months of 2016 are just going to fly by.

Today here in Ardmore, Oklahoma, it is overcast and looks like it's going to rain at any moment. So when I was thinking about what cocktail I wanted to make for you guys, I immediately thought of the delicious cocktail called "Dark 'n Stormy."  It's an oldie but a goodie.  I have a slight twist to my recipe that gives it a bit of a spicy note that I really love.  So here it is, Momma Mojito's Dark 'n Stormy.

It's Friday Cocktail Time! Cuba Libré Edition!

Hey Mommas!! I hope you all have had a fantastic week.  It's been an interesting week for me as we found out that my husband is being promoted to a new position in Oklahoma City and therefore we are moving in the next 2 months.  It's been a little hectic getting everything ready with our house to sell and making preparations to begin the search for a new home in OKC. We're pretty excited though! It's a daunting task ahead of us and a lot of hard work, but hey-- we're not a family to be scared of a little hard work.

There's something you all may not know about me, but you should.  I have a wildly eclectic taste in music.  I don't mean that lightly.  People that know me well know that I listen to anything from Doo-Wop, Big Band, Cuban beats, Alternative Rock, Hip-Hop, Blues, and just about everything in between.  You'll frequently hear me jamming to Leon Bridges, Alabama Shakes, Michael Bublé, Adele, Kings of Leon, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Celia Cruz, Elvis, The Black Keys, Taylor Swift, Florence + The Machine, Gary Clark Jr., Hozier, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, The Revivalists, Beyonce, Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande, Meghan Trainor, and so many others.  My taste in music is truly eclectic and it's certainly a love of mine.  If there is one long-standing love that I have for a specific artist or band, it would have to be Kings of Leon.  My love for Kings of Leon goes back to a decade ago.  I will credit my husband for introducing me to their music.  I have a special connection with Kings of Leon, and I can recall every album from the time I found out about them and the exact place I was at in my life and how that album had an effect on me.  The first album I was introduced to was Because of the Times, and it reminds me very much of dating my husband in College Station, Texas.  The next album, Only by the Night, reminds me so strongly of the birth of my daughter and moving from College Station to Dallas.  The next album, Come Around Sundown, brings me back to being 9 months pregnant with my son and anxiously awaiting his arrival.  There's a song on that album called "Back Down South" that still gives me chills when I listen to it. Then, Mechanical Bull, came out in 2013 in my time in Ardmore when I feel like I underwent a change from a 20-something year old girl to an adult.  I finally stopped feeling like a kid and became confident in my mothering abilities after several years of constant fear and worrying, and overall became much more confident in myself as an individual and a woman.

Now here we are, the latest Kings of Leon album was just released last week called WALLS.  Then on Monday, we get the call that we are moving to OKC.  So I guess you can say Kings of Leon are like the soundtrack of my life.  And I like it that way.  If you haven't heard the latest album, go check it out.  It's so pretty and moving.  There's so many songs I love, but definitely the one that I love the most is called "Over."

So there ya have it, my life through music.  You'll frequently hear me talk about music, cause it's a way of life for me.  Music always has a way of making me feel better.  So in this crazy week that I've had, I wanted to make a simple and delicious cocktail for you all.  For me, there is nothing more simple and delicious than a Cuba Libré...well other than just a glass of red wine of course. My Cuba Libré has a secret ingredient that puts it over the top.  Here it is girls! Make yourself one today and go check out the Kings of Leon's new album.  Cheers and Happy Listening!!

Changes Coming to Momma Mojito

Mommas--

I know we've only just begun here at Momma Mojito.  However, we're already going to make some changes.  Due to a promotion and relocation for my husband, I am moving the Momma Mojito HQ to Oklahoma City!  I'm really excited about the change.  Taking my little family to a bigger city will be a nice change of scenery.  I'm looking forward to living in an area with so many more amenities (hello Target!!).  It's also a great opportunity for me to grow Momma Mojito in a bigger city.  You never know... you may find a Momma Mojito store one day in the Brick City area in Oklahoma City.

I'm not exactly thrilled with the idea of living in the heart of Tornado Alley; however, I have insisted to my husband that a storm shelter goes in the day I move in.  We'll also have some more winter weather than we're used to down here in Southern Oklahoma.  I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing....I guess it's okay as long as I can admire the snow from inside my nice, warm and cozy house with a cup of coffee next to the fireplace.  If I have to get out in it, that's a whole different story.  This Texas girl doesn't know how to shovel snow from a driveway.  I had always imagined that our next move would be back to Texas.  But due to some unforeseen circumstances, the need for us in Oklahoma City became greater.  It's a wonderful career opportunity for my hubby, and I'm happy to tag along and support him along the way.  As long as there's a Target, I should be okay ;).  I'm still considering myself a Texas girl at heart and hope before too long, we get back that way.

Nonetheless, it's an exciting time for my family as well as for my business.  I hope you all will stick with us as we make the changes. There may be a little bit of a slowdown in my posts and social media content, but I'll try to keep it as normal as possible throughout the move.  One thing that won't change is my desire to bring all of you some adorable clothing, accessories, cheerful drinkware, and above all else--a positive environment for all women.  I truly appreciate all of the support from all of you.  Here's to the next chapter!

xx, Momma Mojito
