It's Friday Cocktail Time!! Paloma Edition!!

Hey mommas!! Happy Friday to ya!! Can you believe September is already here?? This time of year seems to go by so fast.  There are so many school activities, fall festivals, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and then before you know it Christmas will be here.  I don't know about you mommas but every year I get excited about Pumpkin Spice Latte time!! I'm actually enjoying a PSL as I write this post.  Yes I know it's a little warm outside for a hot latte but I don't care okay?! PSL time only comes once a year ya know!! ;)

This weekend of course I am nervously watching the approach of Hurricane Irma and hoping it fizzles out and doesn't become a massive disaster like Harvey.  Thinking about you Floridians this weekend and hope everyone stays safe!! Speaking of hurricanes, I want to thank you all so much for helping us raise money for the victims in Texas.  We raised a ton and collected all sorts of items here locally in OKC and sent them off to those in need in Texas, and we are so proud to have been able to help contribute to such a worthy cause.  Also, I had the great pleasure of helping out today with the local Indie Trunk Show girls here in OKC at the Regional Food Bank sorting and bagging up a HUGE amount of blueberries to feed hungry families here in Oklahoma!! It was great messy fun and I'm so glad I got to represent Momma Mojito today by giving back to the community.

Now the weekend is officially here and I'm so ready to kick my feet up a little after a long and exhausting week.  To quench my thirst while I'm kicking back this weekend, I'll be sippin' on my delicious and delightful Palomas!! A Paloma is a bright and crisp Mexican cocktail that is easy to drink and so fruity and refreshing!!  It is a gorgeous blush-colored cocktail that is as tasty as it is pretty.  Bonus--it only takes a few ingredients and it's super simple to make!!  So here it is mommas...hope you love it just as much as I do!! Wishing you all a safe and relaxing weekend!! Cheers mommas!! :)

It's Friday Cocktail Time!! Hurricane Edition!!

Hey Mommas!! Happy Friday to ya!! It's been a busy but exciting week around the Momma Mojito HQ! We have some very exciting news coming to Momma Mojito, but we're going to keep a secret a bit longer! But trust us, this surprise is going to be worth the wait!! :)

I am so glad it's Friday, but it's a bit of an ominous Friday with the looming Hurricane Harvey coming into the Texas coast.  If you've been following along, you'll know I'm a former Texas Aggie (whoop!) and I spent 4 great years in College Station, Texas which is about an hour and a half northwest of Houston.  When I was a freshman there in College Station, Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans and many students from LSU and other Louisiana universities were transferred to A&M because of the damage to their schools.  Hurricane Rita followed closely behind and I retreated home turning a normal 5 hour drive into a 10 hour drive in all the chaos and traffic of people evacuating.  Years later, Mr. Mojito and I were married and I was pregnant with our first kiddo when Hurricane Ike plowed through the Texas coast right on up through College Station. We lived in an itty-bitty 600 square feet fourplex that had literally the biggest cockroaches you've ever seen in your life!! Those suckers were monster-size!! I still think I have nightmares about those things!! Anyway, our parents desperately wanted us to evacuate and looking back--they probably knew what they were talking about seeing as how that house probably provided us absolutely zero protection.  But, we were young and stubborn and decided to ride it out.  We even threw a Hurricane Watch Party and had games and drinks (for everyone except this pregnant momma!) and really had a blast while we watched The Weather Channel nervously!  We ended up losing lots of trees and power lines on our street, but not too much else besides that. We were lucky thank goodness.

Those experiences are all peanuts compared to what the people along the Texas coast are going to be going through this weekend.  So since I am sure no one in the affected areas is reading this right now (hopefully you all are evacuated---if not, then get your butt movin' mommas!!), how about the rest of us have a cocktail while we wait and hope for the best for Texas??  And what better cocktail than the Hurricane???  Absolutely!! The Hurricane is a really great cocktail that has come to greatness through Mardi Gras culture in New Orleans, and with good reason--it's strong, delicious, and easy to drink.

In this recipe, I utilized our new gorgeous Mason Jar Cactus Shaker and Sipper which makes this recipe a breeze!  All you have to do is whip it up in the shaker, and then strain into the sipper and you're good to go!! You actually don't even have to strain if you don't want to, you can just drink it with the cocktail shaker part removed or switch out the lid with the Prickly Pear lid!! Yes that's right---the lids are interchangeable!!! Score!! The only reason to strain is the pulp.  If the lime and orange pulp don't bother you, then by all means--make it easy on yourself like I did and pop the Prickly Pear lid on there and call it a day.

So here's the recipe mommas!! Cheers and here's hoping for a safe weekend for everyone!!!  See you next time!! ;)

It's Friday Cocktail Time!! Frosé Edition!!

Hey mommas!!! Happy Friday!!! Hope you all had a wonderful week and are excited about the weekend!! :)

So some of you that have been following along with me for a while now will know that I'm a Texas girl at heart.  I'm displaced a little up here in Oklahoma, but that doesn't change the fact that deep down I will always be a Texas girl.  Texas is my home state, and it's truly hard to compare any other state to Texas.  Sorry Oklahoma, but it's true.  Now don't get me wrong--I've come to know that Oklahoma is a great state too and honestly--I would have never known had I not lived here the past 5 years.  There really are some great people here in Oklahoma and they've made us feel very welcome.  However, there's just something different about Texas.  It has and always will feel like home.  One of these days, my little family has every intention on getting back home to Texas.  But for now, we'll keep on enjoying Oklahoma as our adopted state.

One of the things that is totally unique and special to the state of Texas (among many things) is HEB.  Those of you mommas from Texas know exactly about the wonder that is HEB and you don't need me to tell you how great it is.  It's seriously one of the things that I miss most about Texas.  I have never enjoyed a grocery store more than HEB.  Sorry Oklahomans, but you're missing out there.  There's a lot of great things about Oklahoma, but amazing grocery stores is not one of them.  To have seriously wonderful produce and products at the best pricing you can get and provide it all in a organized, clean, and super friendly facility....I mean it's amazing.  You've gotta see it to believe it.

So because I adore HEB so much and really do miss shopping there, I get my HEB fix by keeping up with them on social media since we don't have their stores up here in Oklahoma.  Last week, they posted the most delicious Frosé recipe, and it looked so good that I just had to try it.  Normally, I find a recipe I think sounds good, and I adapt it in some way in which I think may be a little better.  Well, leave it to HEB to come up with a recipe that needs no adaptation. So, coming to you courtesy of the amazing people at HEB, here is a Frosé that you definitely need in your life.  It's so simple to make, so delicious, and icy cold.  It may just be my new second favorite summer drink, coming in behind the Mojito of course! ;)  Whip up a batch this weekend and enjoy!! Cheers mommas!! See you next week!!

xx, Momma Mojito

HEB FROSE (Frozen Rosé)

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle of Rosé Wine (any kind will work--I recommend one that's not too sweet like Charles & Charles Rosé...HEB recommends Forty Ounce Rosé)
  • 1/4 cup of Vodka (I recommend Tito's)
  • 2 Cups of Fresh Strawberries (sliced)
  • 1 Tbsp Sugar
  • 2 Tbsp Grenadine

Directions:

Pour entire bottle of Rosé into ice cube trays and freeze for at least 6 hours.  When frozen, pop out the cubes and place in a blender.  Add remaining ingredients.  Blend until it has reached desired consistency.  Pour in stemless wine glasses (might I suggest some of our gorgeous wine glasses that can be found here) and garnish with a sprig of mint and a strawberry with each glass.  Serve immediately.  Cheers mommas!!
