It's Friday Cocktail Time!! Strawberry Thyme Martini--Recap Edition!

Hey mommas! I was browsing through some of my past cocktail recipes, when I stumbled upon this yummy one.  I completely forgot how much I love this cocktail! I love mixing fruity flavors with herbs.  The combination always makes for a great cocktail.  So this week, Friday Cocktail Time is a recap of this delicious Strawberry Thyme Martini.  I'll be making myself one here shortly, and you should too.  Happy Friday mommas! See you girls next week! Cheers!

Hey mommas!! Happy Friday to ya!!! Can you believe it's already halfway through May?? My kids get out of school in a week and a half! I haven't decided if I'm excited or a little disappointed.  It changes on any given day.  On the one hand, I love having my kids home in the summer and doing fun stuff with them.  I'm super excited we have a great neighborhood pool that's just a short walk from our new house that we can enjoy this summer! Plus, I always love taking them to parks and museums and the random afternoon matinee of the newest children's movie.  All fun stuff.  These are all things I love to do with my monkeys in the summer.  On the other hand, I like silence and being able to get chores done with ease...or not hearing arguing when I'm trying to listen to a new favorite song...or being able to go to the bathroom without someone knocking on the door asking if they can have ANOTHER container of Pringles!!! UGH!! And don't even get me started on trying to work out with kids in the house---seriously I don't want an audience when I'm attempting to do burpees OKAY?! Oh, the life of a mom:  so much fun...yet so much work and so little personal time.... okay let's be honest--ZERO personal time.

Anywho---- speaking of moms, it's Mother's Day on Sunday!! Yay!! The one day you can guilt-trip your husband into doing the dishes and he actually does it without complaining!! I'll take it!! ;)  Because I love all you mommas, I decided to have my BIGGEST sale to date by offering 25% off your entire order now through Sunday at midnight just to show all you mommas some love!  So go ahead, treat yourself momma because you totally deserve it!! (pssss---this is a great time to snag one of our gorgeous Agate Wraps that are so hot right now for one heck of a deal!!!!)

Another thing going on this time of year is it's strawberry season.  Ahh, don't you just love strawberry season?!   Strawberries are my all-time favorite fruit (blackberries being a close second!) and I love to put strawberries on EVERYTHING!  Seriously....oatmeal, toast, pancakes, yogurt, salad, and of course--COCKTAILS!! Yes strawberries and cocktails just go together like PB&J.  So continuing on my strawberry obsession which I started up on the previous post with my Sour Strawberry Cocktail, I now give you a Strawberry Thyme Martini that is so interesting and different, but still delicious and sweet.  The thyme gives it a unique herby, woodsy taste while the strawberries bring the sweet and fruitiness.  This martini is equal parts easy and elegant so it's perfect to serve to your mother-in-law coming to stay with you this weekend! ;) Cheers mommas and have a very, very happy momma's day!!!! :) <3

xx and much love to all you fellow mommas,

Momma Mojito

It's Friday Cocktail Time! French 75 Edition!

Hey mommas! Happy Friday to you girls! (Happy Friday to any guys out there that happen to be reading this as well!) It's been a wild week here in Oklahoma City! As many of you know, Oklahoma teachers are on a walkout this week and schools are closed consequently.  I make a point to not let my political beliefs spill over into my business.  However, as a momma who obviously cares about my children's education, I'm pretty sure it would be easy to see where I stand on the issue.  Nevertheless, this week of being out of school has really thrown off our schedule...BIG time.  Our hours have naturally been off and I feel like I'm struggling to stay on top of things this week.  So if you notice that I've been a little quieter than normal on social media, know that I'm probably giving math quizzes and reading stories to my kiddos while they're home with me.  It's an important job teaching our youth, and I certainly appreciate our teachers for doing it.

With all that said, I'm sure you can tell it's been a stressful week around here and I could use a cocktail...how 'bout you girls?  There's this wonderful little restaurant and venue here in OKC called The Jones Assembly.  It's really a pretty neat little place with a wonderful atmosphere.  Plus, they share my love for deep shades of blue with industrial elements and shades of copper and gold.  On our very first visit when they first opened, I ordered something very simple-- a grilled chicken salad.  I was super disappointed when the chicken came back extremely dry and blah.  That's never a good sign when you feel like you could have cooked it a heck of a lot better at your own house.  So, I wasn't so sure about the place at first.  However, the atmosphere is so fun that we decided to give it a second shot on my birthday back in December.  I'm SO glad we did, because the food was phenomenal that time.  I had a pork chop that was delicious.  Must have just been some early opening issues they were dealing with at first, but they worked it out and now The Jones Assembly is definitely worth a visit if you haven't been.  Oh, and have I mentioned that they have some AMAZING cocktails? Seriously, go just for the drinks sometime when you have a babysitter and an Uber.  They have a wonderful mix of classic cocktails with new innovative and surprising options too.  On my birthday visit, I was feeling celebratory and wanted something festive to start with.  Enter the French 75.  It's bubbly, citrusy, and oh so delicious.  I fell in love.  My version is a tad different than theirs and not quite as sweet but equally yummy in its own right.  Try it the next time you need a cocktail that's festive but still super easy to make!

Cheers mommas and have a wonderful weekend! And teachers...hang in there.  Just to show how much we care, we're giving free gifts to all teachers (in any state!) in every order the entire month of April.  Just let us know in the Gift Options at checkout that you're a teacher. Type in what grade you teach and where you teach at, and we'll add a fun surprise into your order! See you next Friday mommas!

(ps..this also makes for a fabulous brunch cocktail!)

MOMMA MOJITO'S FRENCH 75

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz Gin
  • .5 oz Fresh Lemon Juice (about half a lemon)
  • .5 oz Simple Syrup
  • Champagne or Sparkling White Wine
  • Lemon Peel Ribbon for Garnish

Directions:

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add gin, lemon juice and simple syrup.  Shake until thoroughly chilled--about 30 seconds.  Strain into a champagne flute.  Fill to the top of the glass with champagne.  Add Lemon Peel Ribbon. (Tip: To make a ribbon easily--cut a slice of lemon and cut away the fruit from the peel.  Wrap around your finger to make it curl! Easy!)  Cheers!

It's Friday Cocktail Time! Bunny Punch Edition!!

Hey Mommas! Happy Good Friday to ya! Are you looking forward to Easter weekend?  Hard to believe Easter is already here!  Easter is extra exciting at my house this year because Mr. Mojito's birthday falls on Easter this year! (Fun Fact: Mr. Mojito is actually younger than I am...only by about 4 months but he still calls me a cougar going after a younger man! Lol!)

Easter Sunday is supposed to be super cold and yucky here this year! Ugh, I'm sure you can feel me rolling my eyes through the screen.  So. tired. of. the. cold. weather.  Come out Sun and stay a while for goodness' sake! So, because of Easter falling on the same day as Mr. Mojito's birthday and then adding in a million other things going on here at Momma Mojito and of course just the day-to-day rush of mom life...I am exhausted.  Like seriously, seriously exhausted.  I just want to take a nap.  But there's too much to do soooo I've been exploring new ways to lessen my load and focus on more fun stuff (like making cocktails!!).  One of my favorite time-savers is Wal-Mart's pickup grocery option.  I do absolutely all of my grocery shopping on my phone and pull up to Wal-Mart and let them load it all up for me.  SO awesome! I'm constantly trying to find little ways to make my life just a little bit easier, so when I found out that I could pay people to fill Easter eggs and hide them around my yard for me....ummm YES please!  I love living in a city where there's so many amenities.  Call me a city girl all you want, but I quite like my options thank you! So for this year's Easter, I'm taking the easy route and letting people help me a bit.  Less work for me equals less stress.  And let's be honest-- when Momma is happy, the whole family is happy.  Know what goes great with your stress-free Easter weekend? My Bunny Punch!! ;) This may be my favorite themed cocktail yet! It is oh so good and oh so easy!!  Plus, if you're pregnant, nursing, or you just want to make it a family-friendly drink, then that's no problem.  Just leave out the booze and replace it with Sprite!  It's still a delicious punch that everyone will love!

So here it is mommas! I can't wait to hear how you all like this recipe, so let me know in the comments below how it turns out for you!  Cheers and Happy Easter! :)

MOMMA MOJITO'S BUNNY PUNCH (can be multiplied for a crowd!)

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. Cake-Flavored Vodka, Vanilla-Flavored Vodka, or Just Plain Vodka (optional--if omitting the booze then I recommend replacing with Sprite!)
  • 5 oz. Chilled Raspberry Lemonade (I used Simply brand)
  • 2 oz. Chilled Pineapple Juice
  • Chilled Club Soda to Taste
  • 1 Scoop of Rainbow Sherbet (I used Bluebell)
  • 1 Bunny Peep (any color)
  • Pink Sanding Sugar or Sprinkles of Your Choice

Directions:

Dip the rim of a glass of your choice in water lightly and press into the Pink Sanding Sugar or Sprinkles to coat the rim of the glass.  Now fill with ice if desired.  This step is not necessary if you have all your ingredients thoroughly chilled!  Next, add Vodka, Lemonade, and Pineapple Juice to the glass.  Stir.  Fill to the top with Club Soda.  Now add a scoop of Rainbow Sherbet (yum!).  Lastly, cut a small notch in the bottom of your Peep and place on the rim of the glass.  Cheers and Happy Easter!!

It's Friday Cocktail Time! Mojito Season's Here!

Happy Friday mommas and happy MOJITO season!! Woohoo!!! Who's as excited as me?! It's officially spring and FINALLY starting to warm up a bit, so let's celebrate with a mojito...shall we?!

Those of you that have followed along with me will be familiar with my mojito.  However, I still get questions all the time from people just wanting to know a little bit more.  Don't be overwhelmed though mommas! There is absolutely nothing tricky at all about a mojito! It's as easy to make as it is to drink! ;)

I put together a brief little video this week showcasing just how simple it really is.  Check it out at the link at the bottom of this post! Throw some mint in a glass with some simple syrup over the top, muddle, fill with ice-rum-lime juice-and club soda, and call it a day.  So easy and so refreshing.  Plus, you can totally customize it to however you prefer.  Like a little more lime? Sure, add some more lime juice.  Prefer raw sugar?  Just muddle it up with the mint leaves.  Want it a little less strong on the booze? Take it down a half ounce.  Make it however suits you, but I will only make one simple request.  Do NOT substitute the Bacardi.  Don't do it.  The Bacardi Superior Silver Rum is iconic to the mojito.  Anything else you try to substitute will not taste as good.  Trust me.  Stick to the original rum on this one and you won't be disappointed.

Hope you mommas enjoy the first weekend of spring! Cheers and see you next week! :)

MOMMA MOJITO'S THE CLASSIC MOJITO

Ingredients:

  • .75 oz to 1 oz. Simple Syrup (make it yourself or store-bought works great too!)
  • 1.5 oz to 2 oz. Bacardi Superior Silver Rum
  • Juice of Half a Lime to Full Lime (depending on size and your preference)
  • Club Soda to Taste
  • Ice
  • 5-8 Mint Leaves (depending on size)
  • Lime Wheel and Mint Sprig for Garnish

Directions:

In a highball glass, throw your mint leaves down at the bottom and pour the syrup on top.  Muddle enough to bring out the flavor of the leaves but do not destroy the leaves.  Fill 3/4 of the glass with ice and muddle again to pack the ice in.  Add rum, lime juice, and top with club soda.  Give it a slight stir and garnish.  Cheers!

It's Friday Cocktail Time!! Best Beer Recap Edition!!

Hey mommas! Happy Friday to ya! In honor of St. Patrick's Day tomorrow, I've decided to do a recap from last year's St. Patrick's Day post all about beer!! Hope you find this list of some of my favorite beers helpful! Cheers and see you next week mommas! :)

xo, Momma Mojito

Hey mommas!! Happy Friday and happy St. Patrick's Day to ya!! Hope you've got your green on!! In honor of St. Patrick's Day today, I decided to round up all of my favorite beers that I think are the absolute best and share them with you guys!!

It's a known fact that I do love a good cocktail, and of course I love my wine.  However, every once in a while, you just crave a crisp and refreshing brew.  It's true.  Now, I won't lie to you; beer is not my go-to choice of beverage.  While it may be Mr. Mojito's, I don't think mojitos (or wine!) and I will ever part.  Now a good portion of my list has some girly choices, but hey I AM a girl and I'm not ashamed that I do like some of the fruitier beers.  If you're a guy reading this post, this list will probably not be helpful for you.  However, I think you ladies will appreciate this list.

Mr. Mojito always makes me laugh when we're out at bars and restaurants.  Without fail, he always asks what beers they have on tap, and he always branches out and tries a new one.  But 99.9% of the time, he hates whatever new beer he tries and he has to force himself to drink it.  Sometimes they are so bad, he won't even bother drinking it and will just order something else.  While Mr. Mojito's adventurous beer-drinking spirit is admirable, he already knows what beer he loves and once you have found the one---sometimes it's hard for anything else to even come close. That's how I feel about Mr. Mojito....except maybe Ryan Gosling-he may come close.  JUST KIDDING! (Mr. Mojito, if you're reading this--it was just a JOKE! ;) )

So before I dig my hole any deeper, here's my list of my 10 favorite beers.  And yes, Mr. Mojito and I actually do agree on #1 on the list.  Gotta hand it to him...he has good taste in beer...and women! ;) Cheers mommas and see you next week!!

xx, Momma Mojito
