It's Friday Cocktail Time! The Mai Tai Edition!

Hey mommas! Happy Friday to ya!! Can you believe that summer is almost here?! I'm so excited! I looooove warm weather.  Seriously.  100 degrees doesn't really even phase me.  I'll take it all day, every day over freezing temperatures.  Plus, is there really anything better than a deliciously cold cocktail on a super hot summer day?! ;)

I have a feeling I'll be needing one this weekend for sure.  I'm spending my Friday and part of Saturday being a volunteer for my daughter's Girl Scout camping trip.  I know what you all are thinking.  I'm not a camper.  You're totally right.  I'm more of a cabin type of girl.  I like to sleep in a normal bed and use a normal bathroom.  Somehow though, I'm always forced to camp against my will! Haha! No but seriously...my entire family loves camping.  We always camped constantly growing up and now I married a man who loves to camp.  Of course, my kids also love camping.  So I suck it up and camp a LOT.  You'd think I'd be a regular pro by now, but I still tend to complain though every time.  I'm sorry, but camping is NOT a vacation.  Camping is work!! There's so much packing up a ton of supplies just to be able to function somewhat.  Then you get there, and you have to unload and set it all up.  Then you have to figure out how to cook a meal without any normal everyday conveniences like a stove and an oven.  Next, you have to figure out how to wash all said cooking supplies without a sink.  After that, you go sleep on a makeshift bed that's essentially on the cold ground and try to get a few hours of uncomfortable sleep all the while wondering what in the world that noise was outside your tent!  Surely, I'm not alone in thinking that camping is more trouble than it's worth, right?! Lol. I do think it's a ton of work, but I love seeing how happy it makes my kids.  So I'll suck it up this weekend and put on my happy face for my girl and her girl scout troop.  But between you mommas and me, I'll be wishing I at least had a glass of wine or a cold cocktail! ;)

On to more laid back topics, summer is the perfect time for a whole host of yummy tiki-inspired cocktails.  There are so many delicious fruits that are at their prime right now making them perfect additions to cocktails.  Plus, it's so hot that just about anything on ice tastes like heaven.  One of my favorite tiki cocktails is the Mai Tai.  Those of you that have followed along with me know that rum is my favorite liquor of course, and the Mai Tai is all about the rum.  It's a strong cocktail, but easy to drink nonetheless.  The flavors blend together perfectly, and it just tastes like summer.  I think my favorite part of this cocktail is the almond flavor!! YUM!! So here it is mommas...my delicious Mai Tai.  Mix one up this evening and enjoy it for me as I'm setting up tents and sleeping on the ground!! :)

MOMMA MOJITO'S MAI TAI

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz. Dark Rum
  • 1 oz. Amber Rum
  • 2 tbsps Orange Juice
  • .5 oz. Triple Sec
  • Juice of Half a Lime
  • 1 Drop of Almond Extract (or you can use Orgeat Syrup if you can locate it but Almond Extract works great too!)
  • 1 tsp Fine Raw Granulated Sugar
  • Dash of Grenadine
  • Spent Lime Half and Mint Sprig for Garnish

Directions:

In a cocktail shaker filled with crushed ice, pour in all ingredients except garnishes.  Shake until shaker is starting to get frosty...about 30 seconds.  Do not strain.  Pour entire contents into a glass of your choice.  Garnish with the half of the lime that you juiced and a sprig of mint (pat it in your hand a couple times to bring out the flavor!).  Cheers mommas!

I's Friday Cocktail Time! The White Wine Punch Edition!

Happy Friday to ya mommas and happy Mother's Day weekend!! I'm so excited that the weekend is finally here and I know you mommas are too! Mommas definitely all need a day for a little extra appreciation and love.  I totally get it...you have kids to take care of, a house, job, pets, a spouse...and so much more to deal with on a daily basis.  So all you mommas deserve a day to be shown how much you're loved and appreciated.

I got to celebrate a little early with my kids yesterday at their school for "Morning with Mom."  It was so super sweet seeing how proud and excited my kids were to show me all the things they had been working so hard on for me.  My fridge is now filled with all their beautiful Mother's Day artworks.  :) Mr. Mojito does a really great job of making me feel super special on Mother's Day as well.  He actually already surprised me early with a beautiful bouquet of flowers! My dining room looks so pretty with them and not to mention how heavenly it smells.

Mommas could also probably all use a cocktail on Mother's Day.  After all, mommas do put up with a lot and have more than their fair share of stress.  But have you ever bought a bottle of wine that you thought was going to be delicious and then you try it and it's anything but?  Ugh.  That's the worst.  It takes a lot for me to not like a wine, and one white wine that I bought here recently took the cake.  Yuck.  However, it dawned on me that I could turn this icky wine into something delicious -- a cocktail!  So here it is girls! My delicious and thrifty White Wine Punch! Cheers to all of you mommas, and I hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day!

Hey mommas! Happy Friday!! Hope you all had a fabulous week! It's sure been a busy week around my house! Mr. Mojito is hard at work this week building a rock patio in our backyard, and I am pretty darn excited about it! I can't wait to sit out there when the weather gets nice and relax in a lawn chair with an ice cold cocktail in hand.  Eek! I'm getting excited just thinking about it!

If you didn't already know it, next week on Thursday, February 22nd is National Margarita Day which is my 2nd favorite drink holiday behind National Mojito Day of course!! MOMMA MOJITO'S FROZEN MARGARITA (a pitcher's worth)

Ingredients:

  • 1 6 oz. can of Minute Maid Frozen Limeade  (sometimes the 6oz. size is hard to find--you can make it with the 12oz. size and just double the rest of the ingredients and this will make 2 pitchers worth--otherwise just pour half of the 12oz. can out and save for another use.)
  • 6 oz. Agave Silver Tequila (just use the limeade can for measuring!
  • 3 oz. Triple Sec or your favorite Orange Liqueur
  • 1 tbsp. of Agave Syrup (more if you like it super sweet or omit if you don't want any sweetness)
  • Fresh Lime Juice to Taste (I think the juice of one lime is enough but you be the judge)
  • Ice (about 4-5 cups is good)
  • Kosher Salt for the Rim
  • Lime Wedge or Slice for Garnish

Directions:

Pour out some of the kosher salt in a saucer or on a plate.  Run a sliced lime over the rim of your margarita glasses and then dip the glasses into the salt all along the rim until coated.  Set aside.  In a blender, pour in the limeade, tequila, triple sec, and agave syrup.  Next, add the ice.  Blend until smooth.  You may need to stop the blender a couple times for stirring.  Add enough ice until frozen and smooth, not watery.  Pour into the glasses and garnish with a slice of lime.  Enjoy!

Mr. Mojito really needed this margarita after a long day of working on my new patio!! :)

It's Friday Cocktail Time! Real Life Edition!

Okay, mommas.  Normally I try to post a fresh new cocktail recipe every week for you all.  Every once in a while, I get a little behind.  But for the most part, I'm pretty good about it.  And I absolutely love writing on here.  It's one of my favorite parts of my job.

But real life here for a second...I am super stressed out and so damn busy.  Like every day is a freaking sprint from dawn until midnight.  I'm exhausted.  I had every intention of making a "Club Special" for you today, but you mommas know how some days go.  One kid is sick, the other has sport events, one animal needs to go to the vet, someone needs something washed for one thing or another.  It's always something in our house.  And this momma is overworked and way behind on a million things.  Business here has been absolutely amazing, and while I do have some help here and there, I'm still mostly a one-woman show.  So since I have been swamped with packing orders and #momlife today, I won't be posting a new cocktail today.  Just a pic of real life....my backyard with my babies drinking an Angry Orchard Rosé...which by the way tastes just like a Jolly Rancher! :)

So mommas, I hope you all get a chance this weekend to sit back and enjoy a cold one on your porch while you watch your kiddos play.  Relax and enjoy just being present.  Cheers mommas!

(ps, see you back next week for a new cocktail recipe...promise!)

It's Friday Cocktail Time! The Modern Gin & Cucumber Gimlet Edition!

IMG_7132.jpg

Hey mommas!! Happy Friday to ya!! I'm extra excited for the weekend, because I get to spend it with some of you girls!! I'm having a pop-up shop tomorrow with Gem and Ivy in downtown Shawnee, OK from 11-5.  I'm so excited for you mommas to see all of these Spring Collection pretties in person! I even have some never-before-seen arrivals too! Eek!! So fun!! So make sure to come see me tomorrow, and I'll even give you a little discount if you mention you read my blog! Yay! :)

Because I'm going to be out at the pop-up tomorrow, I have a million things going on today to do some last-minute prep for it.  So, I'm cutting straight to the chase with this delicious and refreshing Gin & Cucumber Gimlet, but a modern and updated version (from the classic version I posted a while back) that eliminates the Rose's Sweetened Lime Juice and is a bit fresher and stronger.  It's a breeze to make, and it's a breeze to drink.  So crisp and light, it's just right for springtime.  Pour yourself one this lovely Friday afternoon and enjoy! Cheers mommas and hope to see you tomorrow!
